Dr. Student
Me and my parents at my doctoral convocation.
Taleb [EN], طالب [AR]
1) Seeker of knowledge
2) Student
My parents have always instilled the importance of education. First with my family name, then through the values with which I was raised. Ultimately, their emphasis on education was an invitation to a lifelong journey of discovery. It wasn't about reaching a destination, like a diploma or job title, but about embracing the continuous process of growth. They instilled in us the curiosity to ask "why," the courage to admit when we didn't know, and the discipline to seek answers.
My doctoral journey revealed a profound truth: simply studying existing answers can only take you so far. The combined wisdom of the ages, while vast, remains limited. True knowledge is not merely about memorizing facts, it requires a mastery of inquiry. It's about learning to identify unknowns, formulate questions, construct hypotheses, and design methods to test them. This critical investigation is the most important skill I developed during my studies. It was through this process that I realized the potential for a knowledge with no bounds. My doctorate doesn't mean I have all the answers, rather, it means that I have the framework and the tenacity to find them.
I learned the skills to be a perpetual student, forever equipped to explore the unknown. In this sense, I suppose the legacy of my name rings true. I am Dr. Taleb—Dr. Student.
